Spring Has Sprung- The Fun Has Only Just Begun

I thought my title was pretty smart.. It like rhymes!
So it's spring and I am very happy about this. Spring means lambs, new life, fresh smelling air and beautiful spring flowers. The disadvantages is the unpredictable weather and all that fresh grass for our horses to go loopy on!

------

Anyways today I was sitting in my room contemplating what to do, when I realized we have left our poor blog readers hanging!
I'm really sorry we haven't done a post in a while. To be honest both me and WildHorse have been extremely busy with school and exams.
But now that holidays are drawing near we have time to blog!
Hurrah!
Also more exciting news, hopefully on the second week of the holidays WildHorse will be coming to my house! Horsebuzz reunited people!

So I will give you a heads up on the horses; Specere has been chilling for a few months as the weather has been terrible and also with school I haven't had much time to go riding, also she is looking rather skinny. So I may have to get a summer job to get extra feed. Oh boy!
Macey has been given to me to exercises and use (YAY) because she is not being used at all on the farm. So that works well for me. So now I'm alternating between riding Specs and Macey.
And I am very determined to teach Macey to jump.
Oml today I took Macey for a ride (her brakes are broken I swear), after I took her down through a bush walk she settled down, and we cantered the rest of the way home. Her paces are so smooth, I think she should be a dressage horse. Then I was holding her back and she did this really weird pace like half canter and half trot. It was more like skipping, but it was a really nice pace to sit to.
Poor Spec's ran around and around her paddock. I think she is a bit jealous of Macey to be honest.

Anyway until next time!
I hope you are making the most of the sun!
Take your horse for a ride and enjoy yourselves, but BE SAFE! ^_^

**HERES SOME PHOTOS**

Those unimpressed facials tho

Trying to give her a hug. Nope she don't want it

Selfie

WildHorse: So this weekend I finally got to see HorseFrenzy! We got it off to a crazy start with getting changed in a public bathroom. It involved a foreigner and a toddler, lets leave it at that....

It twas an awesome experience, I can now tick it off my bucket list!

Anyway today we went for a ride to see Macey, who lives on the other side of the farm. So HorseFrenzy and I mounted Spec's who was wearing her winter coat and happened to be enjoying a nice patch of grass before we interrupted her. Riding doubles is thrilling as always.
We both ended up with nice wedgies. It took a while to get there, but we did eventually.
I was amazed at Macey's beauty! I have never seen a palomino up close before. She is actually so mazing. See what I did there? Mazing because her name is Macey! Hahahaha.....
HorseFrenzy said she better ride her as she can be 'excitable', I didn't believe her until her point was proved. Macey went crazy, she start stomping around and tossing her head in the air.
How can one so beautiful be so crazy?

HorseFrenzy soon sorted her out and we were off to the local camping grounds, which is a brilliant place to ride. Along the way Macey shied at the bridge and the helicopter above. But HorseFrenzy clung on for dear life. She has such a brave soul!

HorseFrenzy wrote the above paragraphs. What she said was slightly exaggerated, but it's true Macey is a bit excitable. I had a quick turn on her, and didn't feel very safe (it was a bit like riding Rain bareback for the first time again). We went for a really relaxing ride, so that was fun.

On the way back riding doubles on Specs, we galloped part of it. It was kind of funny but scary. The funny part came after the scary part! We both ended up with wedgies and sore bums. When HorseFrenzy got off she couldn't even stand up straight, it was really funny to watch.

Otherwise we have just been chilln'.... Here's some pics! Check out the selfie ;)

Isn't she a beauty!

HUGE NEWS

So I (HorseFrenzy) as you all know, live on a farm. They have been using motorbikes and everything. But now they are going to be using horses! Squee!
I have waited for this moment all my life!
They are getting three horses from the same breeder.
One arrived yesterday, I shall tell you about her:

She is a beautifully built mare, very much like my old lease Toby. She has four perfect white socks and a pretty white stripe down her face. Her tail is thick and cut short and her mane is course and long, they both are golden. Her face is delicate for her big build breed. She is also a creamy palomino! She is not a complete golden like her face, her body has flecks of gold and white throughout it. Giving her a creamy palomino look. She is truly a beauty!
I will get photos as soon as I can! I rode her and she is amazing! Each step is lively and willing!
She is an ambler which is a very fast movement, between a walk and trot. Her canter is smooth like a rocking horse. Her eyes are a lighter liquid brown, and she is affectionate. She loves to have her neck scratched. I estimate she is 15-16hh but I'm not sure, I will have to measure her by my mare Specere.
I have permission to ride her whenever I like, as long as they aren't using her at the time.
Her name is Macey, as in Racey Macey. She loves to go fast, as she is only young at 8 years. And she hasn't been used in 2 years!
The people never brushed her,  they used her and threw a rug on so she is somewhat dirty. I want to groom her and find out what she looks like under the mud!
I intend to ride her as much as possible!
She is a dream to ride! And she comes to the gate when you call her.
I need to get some photos, when I have them I will upload them as soon as possible!

~~~~~Have a great day!~~~~~
Winter Wellness
So winter is even closer. The Autumn air is crisp and cold. Early in the morning and late at night me toes nearly freeze off. We have had quite a few of these days. And my poor horse Specere has had to endure the freezing cold weather, without a coat! Because most winters Spec's has had a coat, the cold air is freezing without one.
I felt really bad one morning I was bundled in all the winter gear possible and I was still freezing! And here was Specs standing there shaking and a runny nose. So I unlocked my tack room (it is a pigsty!) and got out her winter rug (which is quite broken), then I spied a under rug.
So I went outside and coated Specs. The only things visible are her lower legs, head and tail. Everywhere else is covered. Now she is roaming her paddock warm.
Now I have another issue. Specs is quite thin. I researched and I found this to be very interesting:
http://www.succeed-equine.com/succeed-blog/2012/02/09/winter-weight-loss-pt-1-why-horses-lose-weight-in-winter/
I am getting Specs top meadow hay over winter and she has salt licks for extra minerals. The grass where I live isn't the greatest during winter. So she will need the extra roughage.
Water in winter is freezing and a lot of the time last year I was going outside to break the water, it had frozen solid on top!
**Do not own image**
Poor Specs.
We don't really get snow where we are, it snows every winter, but it melts before touching the ground. A few years ago when I had Toby as well as Specs it snowed hard, it was so much fun! Specs wasn't sure what to do with the snow! She tried eating it but decided it to cold.
We get heaps of rain and wind in winter. Loads of power outages.
Thankfully Specs paddock  is quite covered and has many trees to stand under.
The only problem is now I am school from 8am-5pm. So if the weather changes and is very hot Specs will be stuck in her rug!
*sigh* School is such a bother.
Anyway I hope you horse lovers have a great winter! Stay warm and your horses stay warm!
An Awesome teacher
Yesterday, we didn't ride the horses after lunch, and today, we left them to rest. Why? Because DorkyHorses promised us a jumping lesson to take place at 4pm. We hung around all day, waiting, counting down the hours.. And it was finally here! We rode the horses down to Dorkyhorses place. She was running a little late so we mucked about in the paddock. She then arrived. We got straight to it. WildHorses was having a few minor issues with getting Rain over the jumps, so we decided to use Specs instead.
Finally DorkyHorses decided that HorseFrenzy should try Rain over some jumps.
Slowly as the horses got into the flow, the jump was raised from 50cm-(90cm-1m)
~~~*~~~

Specere was a good horse and faithfully took WildHorse over the jumps. Rain proved to be a little bit of a challenge. She continuously refused to jump (nearly dumping HorseFrenzy in the process).
But she was a good little pony.

Dorkyhorses was a brilliant teacher that we both highly recommend her.
This is her Youtube website:

                                           https://www.youtube.com/user/DorkyHorses

                      So our lesson was a success and we learnt to use our inside and outside reins.
                                                            And our legs to direct the horse.
                  And stick our butts up in the air as high as we can, while keeping our heels down.

                                            We had fun, afterwards we rode home in the rain.

We Survived!

Today we survived it all! Bossy know it all's, falls and angry mares.

We woke up nice and early.. Well at least WildHorse did. HorseFrenzy slept in!
We pulled on our jodhpurs and jodhpur boots and marched into the paddock to catch our naughty ponies\horse.

They saw us coming but we caught them in the end! Once saddled we set off for a nice peaceful ride.
We went up behind one of the houses on the farm and had fun running and jumping a home made cross country course. Rain decided to take off up and hill and not stop at the flat top. Her mood "Lets go all the way to the top".

After that, HorseFrenzy challenged WildHorse: She would ride the wild loopy ready-to-make-babies stallion if WildHorse would! Not one to scare at a challenge, WildHorse agreed.

So without much thought to having two mares next door (in season mare, might you add) to the stallions paddock. We got the little romper in. Lets say he was very excited to see the mares ;)

The mares were playing up and showing to the stallion. So we moved the mares next door to the next door paddock and it was full of wet MUD! They rolled away and when we looked back we had two brown horses not a brown horse and appaloosa.

We got Snuff (aka the wild loopy ready-to-make-babies stallion) into a pen, and decided to lunge him. This was pretty much a failure. He just wanted to call to the mares next door, as well as stare at them.

We smartly decided that we weren't getting anywhere with those mares right next door! So we moved them where Snuff couldn't see them.

After a while of him being upset he settled down. This is when we found out we had a crowd. 2 girls sat on the fence staring at us.

Um.

So we decided to keep going, and WildHorse did the splits (almost) as she started getting on Snuff. She wasn't to keen to throw herself on straight away (much to the disappointment of HorseFrenzy). Anyways, she finialy got on Snuff, and HorseFrenzy lead her around for a few minutes.

Then she went over and sat on the fence. 'Try trotting' she called from her safe perch (away for the wild stallion, definitely not on him). WildHorse obliged. Our audience spoke! 'Shorten your reins and he'll trot.' WildHorse held the withering glace inside and gave a friendly nod without following their advise (she didn't want to upset Snuff who was still getting used to the bit again, let alone having his soft mouth pulled on).

Each time Snuff got a gentle smack on the muzzle for trying to bite us, the whispering on the fence started up. Every move, it seemed was being discussed by our knowable audience. It became a bit annoying, but we gritted our teeth and forged on.

HorseFrenzy got on next, and the challenge was complete. Again, the audience opened its mouth. 'Can we have a ride?' HorseFrenzy, quite torn shrugged and said 'ok'. She didn't want the girls to get hurt, or upset Snuff, but she didn't want to say no.

We gave the audience our helmets, and lined Snuff up so Number One could get on him, when a third girl turned up! Number One took her time, and in the end was to scared to get on. Instead of letting the other girls have a turn, she decided she wanted to led him around the pen. HorseFrenzy shrugged again (she's not one to have awkward battles with girls she hardly knows :P)

It is a truly awkward moment when you know the horse has worked hard and needs to go back to its pen but the person leading doesn't seem to be willing to stop.

HorseFrenzy as gently as she could suggested that the stallion go back to his paddock. The girl said sure and then took off with her other friend.

WildHorse and HorseFrenzy decided it was time for lunch, and made for home. Almost 2 hours later, we dragged ourselves off the couch, and rode bareback up the road to deliver a message. Then we decided to go for a bareback ride: Let the drama begin!

HorseFrenzys point of view : While I was busy looking around, Rain and WildHorse took off up this grass ledge on side of the road. Wildhorse didn't realize she was on it till they were up on it. The ledge was quite high and narrow and Wildhorse realized the only way to get off it was to carefully ride Rain to the end where it slowly went down to road level. Rain had other ideas, seeing a man fixing his fence with a motorbike. That was enough for Rain. I shouted to WildHorse Rain was backing up. It was too late, Rain started sliding backwards down the slope. She bolted back up into the barbed fence. WildHorse was trying to stay on as best as someone bareback could. Before she could shout Rain slid backwards down the hill. I thought Rain was going to fall backwards onto WildHorse. My heart was in my mouth! Rain slid to the road and spun around fast, unseating WildHorse in the process. I watched as poor WildHorse was catapulted to the road. Rain stopped, short of stepping on WildHorse. I sat on Specs and watched in horror. WildHorse was lying down  and not breathing! Ahh! But them she groaned. Nothing was broken. Only a bleeding hand, a bit winded and a sore gluteus. Thank God!

WildHorses point of view: I was busy looking at the pretty chestnut pony behind us, when I felt a weird bump, and I realized that Rain and I were on a small ridge. The only way off was down the end, and not far off was a man fixing a fence. He had a motorbike and a dog. Rain stopped and stared, then took a few more steps. Instead of continuing on, she decided she'd rather go backwards. I suddenly realized that she was going to try going down the bank (we are taking pretty much two meters on a (almost) vertical). I clamped my legs on, grabbed her mane, and the slide began. Rains' head was above me, and I freaked out, thinking she might fall backward on me, or I would fall off and she would stomp all over me. Instead, I managed to hang on, and we made it to the bottom. However, Rain wasn't finished! She decided she'd like to have a quick spin, and because I had just relaxed, glad to be off the ledge/bank, I flew off. Pain instantly filled my left side, the side I landed on. However, I rolled away from Rains legs. Rain took off at a trot, eyeing up some grass. The man called out 'are you ok?' I let out a groan and strangled 'yes'. I struggled to gasp a proper breath, and lay back on the ground, gritting my teeth. The pain was real! I brushed the gravel out for my hand, which promptly began bleeding. Carefully I picked myself up off the ground, and limped over to Rain. Nothing was broken, although at first I felt like my hip was, or something inside had burst.

Then WildHorse spent at least 10minutes trying to get on Rain. HorseFrenzy was in hysterics!

There ends today's adventure! We finish with some wise advise:

If you ride a pony, pray!

Snuff!

Snuff tastes HorseFrenzy's foot

Show pony-ish looking?

Almost trot!

Peace :)

What I Have Learnt Riding Bareback

I'm just back from HorseFrenzy's, which as usual, was heaps of fun. While there, I got to ride Rain bareback. It got me thinking about things I have learnt while riding horse bareback, and I thought I would share them.

Back In The Saddle

So after months of no riding because my mare Specere was meant to be pregnant, I have decided to start working her. Tomorrow WildHorse is coming around so we will be having LOADS of fun.

So I decided to start working Specere because after all that spring grass she would be quite excitable.
She actually went very well and was a good girl, besides being very fat.

Friday 3 January 2014

The Phantom Pregnancy

I am actually so disappointed! Turns out all this time my mare Spec's was having a phantom pregnancy. When they have that they have the same symptoms as a pregnant mare, but minus the foal! So all these months Spec's has been sitting around in her paddock getting fat.

So on the next fine day I am going to get her back into work!

But good news is, if I do well at school this year and get good grades and manage to keep Spec's in work, my mum says we can look at getting a younger horse at the end of the year. Eeee!
Of course I would never give up Specs! I would get the younger horse but still have Spec's to ride. I can alternate!

All well, God must have a different idea for me seeing as Specere isn't pregnant..

I have been laughing because little does the fat horse know that I'm going to be working her hard to get back in shape.

hehehe.
